National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week, an opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous contribution of volunteers in our sporting communities.

This year with the theme Give Happy, Live Happy, it is a week to celebrate that not only are volunteers helping make the lives of others happier, they too are happier as a result.

SASMA would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the Sports Trainers for all the amazing work they do with the South Australian Sporting Clubs from the local junior clubs right through to the professional teams as well. Without them sport would not be able to run and our players would not be able to play week in week out. Your commitment to your sport and clubs is truly appreciated.

We would also like to thank the many other sports medicine professionals who give up time in their busy schedules to help assist their sporting clubs. Many doctors, physiotherapists, podiatrists and massage therapists volunteer their time during the week and on weekends to help out their local teams.

So when you see someone volunteering at a sporting event this weekend take the time to say thank you because without volunteers a lot of clubs would not exist.

This year as a way to say thanks to our sports trainers and to recognise the efforts, commitment and overall amazing job they do, we introduced the inaugural Sports Trainer of the Year Awards, which were presented at the 2016 FAST Conference. These Awards will be presented each year at the FAST Conference. Now is a good time to start thinking of sports trainers at your clubs or associations who you think are going above and beyond and deserve to be recognised. So keep an eye out in the upcoming months for more information on how you can nominate someone.

To all sporting volunteers keep up the good work, SASMA thinks you are amazing. Remember Give Happy, Live Happy!
