SASMA are pleased to offer a range of workshops in schools across SA. With a variety of education, there are a number of skills students can learn that can assist their studies, as well as future career pathways.

We offer fun and interactive courses that develop skillsets that can be used in everyday life.

The SA Sports Medicine Association is the leading educator for Sport Sciences and Sports Medicine in South Australia.

Our workshops can be tailored to suit your schools’ preferences, schedule and needs, we encourage you to contact us to discuss what options there are for your students.

Level 1 Sports Trainer Course. Recognised SACE Program (10 points)

Topics Covered


The role of a sports trainer

Injury prevention and management principles

Wound management

Common soft/hard tissue injuries

Concussion recognition and management

Medical conditions

Basic sports taping (ankle, thumb and finger)

Transport and stretcher use

TOTAPS and injury management scenarios

 

This course has great synergy with any career pathways in Sports, Medicine, Health, Sciences and Fitness.

Pre-Requisites

Must be at least 16 years of age to receive SASMA Accreditation.
A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011- valid for 3 years) & CPR (HLTAID009 - valid for 12 months) certificate is required to receive SASMA Accreditation.
 
Course Structure

  • An online component including assessment component to be completed prior to the Practical day
  • A full day face to face component to complete practical assessments*

* Can be run over 2 or 3 days (6.5 hours total), dependent on your schools’ preferences.

Claim 10 SACE points

For students to claim the 10 points, in addition to completing the course and prerequisites, they must also complete:

  • 5 short online courses on a variety of relatable topics such as: Concussion, Ethics in Sport, dealing with harassment and discrimination.
  • Log 35 hours Trainer Experience with a Level 1 Sports Trainer or higher. A great opportunity for students to connect with local clubs or help at School events. This is easy to achieve through a student's own sporting pursuits, as well as through friends and family members.
  • Conduct a 10-minute video presentation on their favourite topic from the course.

*Discounted from the standard course fee of $275.00

Other Workshops

 

In addition to the Level 1 Course, there are a number of other workshops we offer the SA schools community.



Minimum price is used in the event there are less than 20 participants.
