SMA-SA Community Courses

Monday night saw over 80 individuals from sporting clubs and associations within the Playford Council attend a Sideline Help and Sports Taping Course. The aim of this course is to introduce participants to injury prevention and management strategies that can be implemented in their Sporting environment. Participants represented 13 different sports and from this each played different roles within their club from players, team managers and parents through to Sports Trainers.

It was fantastic to see so many individuals keen and eager to learn more about Sports Medicine. Such was the success of the night that Playford Council have already booked in a second course.

Thank you to Anthony Ruggiero & Matt Ransom, who took time out of their busy schedules with the Crows to assist with the taping, as well as Playford Council for hosting SMA-SA and we look forward to providing more courses from the Safe Sports Program to you and your clubs in the future.

Also on Monday night SMA-SA were out at Athelstone Junior Football Club running a workshop on Concussion and Basic Taping for their team managers, coaches and parents.

A big thank you to Dr Robert Douglas for giving his time to present the Concussion component of the workshop. This provided participants the opportunity to ask the tricky questions they have had on concussion from one of SMA-SA’s Sports Doctor Members. For these sessions SMA-SA utilises our Professional Members to assist us with these and to provide the opportunity to ask questions of the experts.

Athelstone Junior Football Club must be commended on regularly running workshops for their team managers, coaches and parents all with the aim of improving the quality of care and experiences they are provided their players. We look forward to providing more courses to you.

If you would like a similar course run for your club or association, SMA-SA can tailor a presentation to meet your needs. Contact SMA-SA on 8234 6369 for further information.
