SASMA August 2024 Update

SASMA August 2024 Update

SASMA has had a fantastic few months, with the Olympic vibe, positive meeting with Minister Katrine Hildyard this week, excellent range of professional and community events on offer and planning underway for the launch of the Sports Safety TICK program!

A recent highlight was our Professional Education Session on July 3rd, Optimising Female Health and Performance in Sport, held at Karen Rolton Oval. This session saw over 50 attendees registered, from a range of health backgrounds. We would like to acknowledge our expert presenters involved – Dr Elizabeth Clisby, Lauren Bendo, Georgia Bevan and Will Tierney – who covered a variety of topics across a range of disciplines.

The winter months have been a productive period for the organisation.  We continue to improve services for our members, community and stakeholders and we have commenced conversations with new partners and sponsors that will support our upwards growth in SA.

The team have been working behind the scenes on the new Sports Safety Tick initiative that was funded by the State Government in June and will be launched in October this year. We look forward to working with our members, trainers and the wider community across SA in rolling out this exciting new program.

Our important Community Concussion Program has continued through June and July with a number of community, school and professional workshops delivered. We have continued to develop our Sports Trainer Courses, in particular how this is offered in South Australian Schools. We are planning to include new education initiatives for 2025 and beyond for our professional and community education programs.

In collaboration with a number of community clubs, sports trainers and members, we have run a number of Sports Taping Workshops, equipping trainers with new knowledge and practical skills they can utilise with their sporting clubs. Thank you to the Wakefield Sports + Exercise Medicine Clinic, Dr Mark Ralfe, Dr Arthur Turow, Chris Hampel, Kym Eyers, Matt Pilla, as well as SASMA Members, Aaron Beck and Jez Sundqvist for delivering these workshops, both here in Adelaide and Regional SA!

There will be vacancies later in the year to join our impressive Council and Education Working Party.  If you are interested in working with us and influencing SASMA’s future direction, join us! Contact any of the Council or EWP members or please contact me at the office or via ceo@sasma.com.au and I can share more about this opportunity.

As always, we would like to thank our SASMA Council, Education Working Party, Concussion Steering Committee as well as our wider member base for their ongoing engagement and support of our organisation. You are all having such a positive impact on the SA sporting community and this is clearly evident in our member news below, well done to all.
