Congratulations Dr Bridget Sawyer

Congratulations to former SASMA President, Dr Bridget Sawyer, who was recently recgonised for her admission to the AMA Roll of Fellows. Read more on Dr Sawyer below.

Long time SASMA Member, and former President, was honoured at the recent AMA National Conference. Bridget was admitted to the AMA Roll of Fellows, presented by AMA President Prof. Steve Robson.

Congratulations to Bridget Sawyer, SASMA supported this recognition and provided the information below.  

Dr Sawyer is an experienced General Practitioner with a long history in Sports Medicine. Bridget also specialises in Paediatrics and General Medicine.

She has worked with elite athletes in netball and basketball, both domestic and international competition, as well as with the Australian Paralympic Committee. She was also part of the Australian team for the Rio Paralympics which she found a valuable and rewarding experience.

In 2024 Bridget was involved in the World Cup Para Cycling event in Adelaide as the Race Doctor and she recently retired from the role of Women's Race Doctor for the International Tour Down Under.

Bridget is a regular presenter at the established Sports Medicine in General Practice, she is a former President of the SA Sports Medicine Association and is currently on the AMA(SA) Council.



"Dr Sawyer has been an ambassador and advocate for the AMA, general practice and for patients since taking her first official role with the AMA in South Australia in 2017.

As an AMA (SA) Councillor for seven years and Chair of the AMA (SA) Committee on General Practice (CGP) for six years, Dr Sawyer has given her time and considerable expertise to supporting AMA objectives.

Under her leadership, the CGP worked closely with South Australian GPs to help navigate the uncertain environment during the pandemic. Her role led to her joining SA Health’s COVID-19 Primary Care Taskforce, which provided a critical forum in which to offer an AMA voice and clinical perspective." via the AMA.
