SA Sports Medicine Association held a Recovery Masterclass on Wednesday the 12th of September at the South Australian Sport Institute (SASI). Dr Shona Halson, who was flown in from Interstate to present, is an Associate Professor in the School of Behavioural and Health Sciences at the Australian Catholic University (ACU). She is also an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance and was previously the Senior Recovery Physiology at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
In this masterclass, Dr Halson provided attendees with current best practice and her research in relation to minimising fatigue and maximising recovery in athletes. A special focus of the night was on the latest research findings on sleep and recovery. Questions around applying this research to different individual and team athletes created great discussion throughout the session.
The evening hosted over 50 attendees in person, with others also accessing the webcast live on the night. Attendees included SASMA Members, SASI staff and athletes, coaches and other Allied Health professionals interested in the topic of Recovery. All took advantage of the networking opportunity at the beginning of the night.
Thanks to our partner Bartons Chartered Accountants Wealth Advisors for supporting this event and allowing us the opportunity to bring in a high quality presenter from Interstate.
SASMA work very hard to develop these education sessions for our Member’s and other interested Medical and Allied Health professionals. This was our final education evening for 2018 but planning is already underway for sessions we can hold for our Member’s and the Sporting Community in 2019.
