SASMA and Sport SA Partnership



Sport SA and the SA Sports Medicine Association have partnered to bring affordable sports medicine training to the community. SASMA are excited to be delivering Level 1 and Level 2 Sports Trainer Courses with the support of Sport SA in 2024.


Level 1 Sports Trainer Course

Becoming a Sports Trainer is a great way to learn important skills to help provide a safer sporting environment for your club, school, council or community group.

The Level 1 Course introduces the participant to the role of a sports trainer, you will learn how to manage various injury scenarios on the sporting field, how to work within a team of medical professional, practical anatomy, soft/hard tissue injury management, head/spine/trunk injuries and other medical conditions. Participants will also be assessed on their practical taping of the ankle, finger and thumb, managing injury scenarios and transporting the injured athlete via stretcher. Competent participants will then receive their Level 1 Sports Trainer Accreditation that is valid for a 3-year period. From there, further volunteering and employment opportunities can arise with SASMA at weekly and major sporting events, on top of regular work for your sporting club!

All our Sports Trainer Courses are presented by SASMA Members who are medical and allied health professional from a variety of fields, for example, Sports Physiotherapists, Sports Doctors, Remedial Massage Therapists, Paramedics, just to name a few!

LEVEL 1 SPORTS TRAINER COURSE


Level 2 Sports Trainer Course

Becoming a Sports Trainer is a great way to learn important skills to help provide a safer sporting environment for your club, school, council or community group.

The Level 2 Course further develops an existing Sports Trainer skills and education, Level 1 Trainers that have been active for a minimum of 12 months in the field or have done a minimum of 50 hours as an Accredited Trainer, may apply for their Level 2 Accreditation. The Level 2 Course covers advanced taping of the ankle, finger and thumb from the Level 1 Course whilst adding taping of the shoulder, knee and planter faciitis (foot), an introduction to sports massage, advanced wound care, concussion management and information, spinal management, plus more!

All our Sports Trainer Courses are presented by SASMA Members who are medical and allied health professional from a variety of fields, for example, Sports Physiotherapists, Sports Doctors, Remedial Massage Therapists, Paramedics, just to name a few!

Other Community Courses

On top of our Sports Trainer Courses SASMA run a number of other shorter, cost-effective course for the wider community, including;

Sideline Help Course – a great way to introduced the community - parents, athletes, teachers, coaches, officials – to sports injury prevention and management. The Sideline Help Course aims to provide participants with a basic understanding on ‘sports specific first aid skills’, giving them to confidence to assist with a variety of sports injuries and illnesses.

The Sideline Help Course can be couple with a Basic Taping Course, similar to the Sports Trainer Courses, this course introduces the participant to basic taping principles as well as outlining the skills and techniques of ankle, finger and thumb taping.

For those looking to take their taping skills to the next level, we also offer Intermediate and Advanced Taping Courses for experienced trainers.

In addition to these interactive courses, we can also run courses on Concussion Management for sporting clubs, associations, councils and the wider community. These courses are presented by a qualified sports doctor, updating attendees of the most relevant concussions protocols, best practice management for the every day person, signs and symptoms, strategies for your sporting clubs.

Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science, Nutrition and many other educational workshops can be delivered by SASMA’s Professional Members!
